👆A DAY IN THE LIFE @ SKY PIE👆
Sky Pie Studio is looking for a DESIGN-OBSESSED-CREATIVE who's interested in an apprenticeship with our posse!
We are a small Brooklyn-based creative studio with oversized ambitions. We tell design-driven stories in live-action video, stop-motion, 2D animation, photo- and secret blends of all of these. Sometimes to satisfy our own hearts, sometimes for big fancy brands. Our mascot is a flying penguin named Popeye.
We're looking for someone who's been around the block a little (but not in the dirty way.) You're not going to be an expert at everything – in fact that's the idea – but we've got a very, very lengthy wish list. Not for the faint of heart, but if you like a challenge, read on.
Design Beast
Our studio has deep roots in design. We obsess over our set designs and celebrate everything from a well-kerned typeface to that ZING that comes from the perfect Pantone color. Looking to add someone who's interested in geeking out with us and flexing their design/art direction prowess.
Storytelling-Superhuman
Calling all future directors / animators / motionographers of the world. We're hoping to bring someone on who's got some superfly TNT motion chops. Anyone who thinks in storyboards and talks in scenes will be right at home here. You will be in the thick of concept development for every shoot that comes through this studio, so hopefully you don't mind sticking post-it notes all over the walls and spouting crazy-undoable ideas. If you can draw those undoable ideas, we <3 you already. **Bonus points for prowess in After Effects & Premiere!
Creative Ninja
Our titles don’t keep us from jumping into anything that needs done and neither should yours! You will be a swiss-army knife of creativity. You may be the first person to see a project brief. Or maybe you’ve got a killer concept on one that's in the works. You may jump into the middle of set design, production, editing or a pool full of tic-tacs. We're looking for someone who gets excited about the creative process and is eager to be a part of ALL of it.
Editing
We often have several projects in post-production at the same time, so we may need support in compositing, keying, adding sound, coloring, and making everyone & everything look really, ridiculously good-looking.
Set Design / Fabrication
Everything from set-design to prop fabrication and construction. Scratch that itch for chopping, gluing, and building things with your HANDS!
Self-Starter
As this is a small team, everyone really has to pull their weight, and then some. Take the initiative to see what things could be done better, and then make it happen! If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If there are no lemons, make lemonade anyways – lemonade is tasty.
A studio apprenticeship for 2 days a week lasting 6 months. Starting A S A P. We seek to teach you all that we know during this time-- by the end you will be sharp as a Samurai blade!
$500/mo stipend
Freelance opportunities once you get your sea-legs:
Paid set assist / production assist on client jobs.
Further potential making $$ in compositing / editing / concepting if you’re ready for the lime-light
Opportunity to create a project of your own with our team, equipment and resources :)
Exposure to every part of the business you may want to know about... and also those you don't.
We harbor no secrets and love to teach and geek out! Our Creative Director Daniel Castro has lectured at ICP, Art Academy, and founded a workshop program – really, he won’t shut up.
A relaxed place to work – casual Friday every day & schedule flexibility
Work in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn (just off the Greenpoint G stop) with a spectacular view -in a building full of creative studios.
A long term relationship. We're looking for someone who's invested in growing with the studio and becoming part of our freelance crew!
**COVID SAFETY**
We’re all fully vaccinated in the studio and are super mindful of best safety practices for these crazy times!

We can’t tell much about you from a resume. Give us a sense of who you are, things like:
What have you been up to?
What do you hope to get out of this?
Where do you see yourself long term?
What are you good at? (And what do you suck at?)
Why are you awesome for this job?
Link to your work & other stuff you've been a part of (please keep attachments to a minimum).
Put “I’m the one!” In your subject line so we see who’s paying attention ;)
And yes, if handy, we’ll take your resume too
Have fun with it \(ᵔᵕᵔ)/ Non-boring applications always shoot to the top!!
No calls or DM’s please. We'll be looking through responses over the upcoming weeks and will get back to you shortly if it seems like a good fit.
Thanks so much and looking forward to meeting you!
